I awoke this morning to the sound of heavy rain pelting my roof and running rhythmically down the window directly behind our bed. I had a breakfast of biscuits and gravy with good friends to look forward to, and as Galadriel nudged me to hit the snooze button, these words came to my mind:

Then stirs the feeling infinite, so felt
In solitude where we are least alone;
A truth, which through our being then doth melt
And purifies from self: it is a tone,
The soul and source of music, which makes known
Eternal harmony, and sheds a charm,
Like to the fabled Cytherea's zone,
Binding all things with beauty;--'twould disarm
The spectre Death, had he substantial power to harm.

Been pondering my dependance on poo jokes to make others laugh

Sunday, February 18, 2001

I've been thinking quite a bit about relationships recently. Most of this thinking is spurred on by talks with friends and/or my wife, Galadriel. So anyway, I was thinking about how funny it is that when two people first meet or start hanging out they celebrate their similarities so much. "You like alcohol and dancing? Whoa!! I like alcohol and dancing!!" And things really happen that way. So I was thinking, that's nice, that two people can have some things in common to share with each other. But probably some people should ask the right kinds of questions first. For instance, When I was a kid, I had a bad habit of sometimes forgetting to flush the toilet. I don't know what the deal is. Probably some deep psychological illness that caused me to think "If it deals with my poo, let someone else take care of it." Cut to a wooden bench in a small, pretty park. Two young people are getting to know one another; maybe a first date. Boy says "Yeah, I just hate flushing the toilet. My poo isn't gonna cause anybody any harm." Girl says "Oh my gosh, that's unbelieveable! I hate flushing too!! I mean, it's like, what if there are germs on the handle, or what if I'm wasting water or something!?!" BAM!! They're in love. "Let's move in together!!" You get the picture.
Luke here, back on the blog, and hopefully for good. I've been persuaded by my wife and my good friend Sco to finish what I've (sort of) started here, and I'm both excited and apprehensive. I'm excited about the exercise in writing that a blog by nature is, and I'm apprehensive about the avenues of content I should take. I tend to lean toward specificity; I would, in other words, be more comfortable writing posts with a narrow purpose, ie. music reviews, thoughts on what I've been reading, etc. than I would be simply opening a personal forum of contemplation on anything. Perhaps I find security in parameters. I'll work on it.
